Audubon has gone through a lot of transition in the last couple of years, and unfortunately a number of writers are reporting challenging experiences, e.g., unclear and shifting expectations, erratic communication during editing, and non-constructive negative feedback from editors. Perhaps this will improve with new staffing. Their contract has a problematic indemnity clause. You can (and probably should) ask to strike it from the agreement before you sign. Pay rates are $1.50-$2/word.
